The existing corporate atrium of METRO Headquarter office is transformed from an austere space of circulation into a lively social space. A new glazed façade is introduced to regulate microclimate and noise from outside and create a sense of calm enclosure, transforming the once transitional space into a comfortable environment where people can meet, linger, and interact beyond work routines.

On the ground floor, the existing, disused staff canteen is reactivated as a vibrant gastronomy hub. Reflecting Metro’s identity as one of the leaders in wholesale gastronomy supply, the space brings together a multifaceted culinary landscape, ranging from star kitchens to chic cafés, offering a dynamic stage for everyday life.

Colourful pixel-graphic stretches across the height of the atrium - referencing the site’s history as the former Schmincke artist paint factory - as a contemporary interpretation of the pigments once produced here. Together with vertical hanging plants and the integrated seating-planters on the ground level, these layers of colour and greenery interact with the bridges and offices above, forming a sequence of multilevel vistas.

"At the campus, we want to bring to life who we are and how we want to be: pragmatic, focused on our core business and in open dialogue with people – whether they are employees, business partners or customers. With the new catering facilities in the atrium, we are symbolically and literally bringing gastronomy, as our core customer group, into the heart of our business. This is a strong sign of our commitment to the industry and strengthens METRO's identity internally and our modern employer profile externally."
