Adidas was founded as a sportswear company in 1949 by Adolf Dassler in the Bavarian countryside, and despite its large international growth, its headquarters have remained in Herzogenaurach. The new building is intended to combine three functions – a workplace of the future for 2,000 people, a welcome point for visitors to the campus and an icon to be seen from a distance, expressing the values of the company, which are excellence, quality of products, endurance and a competitive mind.

The landscape surrounding the World of Sports building is a flat part of open countryside, an open horizon and space to walk and explore, think and play, run and compete. Sport thrives on movement of bodies in space, of overcoming challenges of distance, height and depth. This open landscape of the campus is an asset and a space of opportunities that should be experienced in a new building for Adidas.

Whereas in standard courtyard offices, only half of the workspaces are oriented outwards and only the ground floor has a direct connection to the landscape, here the building adopts a radial solution in plan, with open spaces expanding in all directions. While a central atrium encourages sociability and interconnection, all of the workspaces benefit from a view out to the countryside and each floor is directly connected to the landscape, which merges with the planted and walkable roof: the building transforms itself into a sport facility for active use of everyone.
