GOČÁR'S GALLERY COMPETITION
ACME has received a commendation for the design and extension of Gočár's Gallery in the Automatic Mills in Pardubice, Czech Republic.
The competition brief asked for a gallery extension in the original flour silo, including exhibition space, café, education spaces, storage, facilities, terrace and ballroom. The proposal presents a simple spatial concept that maximises the use of the mill building by Josef Gočár to the public and concentrates all art storage and ancillary offices into the silos at the back. The spaces that were once designed to store flour now store art, which successfully unifies the exhibition spaces.
